New York Post:
Last-place Mets must fire Jerry Manuel  —  Mets on Twitter  —  The game, and the Mets' season, was encapsulated by one inning yesterday, and it wasn't exactly the kind of thing you want to put in a time capsule.  There were two errors (and should've been three).  There was indifferent pitching.

ZZZzzzzzz WHAT?  THE METS LOST?  UHH THANKS!  ZZZzzzzzz  —  With all the talk of canning Jerry Manuel, isn't that just a smoke screen to cover up the inactivity of the Mets front office?  I use the term “front office” instead of just signaling out Omar Minaya who in my opinion has been de-nutted by ownership.
Ben Nicholson-Smith / MLB Rumors:
White Sox Not Looking To Trade Players  —  The White Sox may start dealing players at some point this season, but they aren't looking to start trading yet.  GM Ken Williams texted manager Ozzie Guillen to say that he isn't looking to trade any White Sox, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times (via Twitter).

BoSox need production from Martinez  —  DETROIT  —  Want to read about Big Papi?  Sorry.  You've come to the wrong place.  —  That story is so April.  —  Now, David Ortiz looks like a lot of designated hitters in baseball: aging, occasionally productive, and on his way to a one-year contract.
Peter Abraham / Boston Globe:
Pre-game updates from the Bronx  —  The surprise of the day is that Victor Martinez (2 for his last 28) dropped out of the No. 3 spot in the lineup but only to No. 5.  Terry Francona's reasoning was that the Red Sox need more “balance” and he wants to keep J.D. Drew and David Ortiz separated.
