Castro fired; Hardy sent down  —  By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel  —  The Brewers have fired pitching coach Bill Castro and replaced him with Class AAA Nashville pitching coach Chris Bosio.  —  In another drastic move, the Brewers have sent down shortstop J.J. Hardy and recalled Alcides Escobar from Nashville.

Pedro goes 5 innings in return  —  CHICAGO (AP) — Pedro Martinez pitched five innings and left with a big lead in his return to the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies.  —  The three-time Cy Young Award winner departed Wednesday night with the Phillies leading the Chicago Cubs 12-3.

BoSox's Youkilis, Tigers' Porcello suspended 5 games each  —  NEW YORK (AP) — Boston's Kevin Youkilis (FSY) and Detroit pitcher Rick Porcello (FSY) were suspended for five games each Wednesday and fined by Major League Baseball for their roles in a benches-clearing confrontation.

Powell powers A's with HR in 4th inning, to beat O's  —  BALTIMORE (AP) — Landon Powell (FSY) homered in Oakland's four-run fourth inning, and the Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Wednesday to win a third straight series for the first time since April 2008.

Breaking: Delgado rehab on hold  —  Carlos Delgado (left) suffered a strained right oblique muscle while rehabbing from hip surgery in Port St. Lucie, assistant GM John Ricco said.  Delgado was examined in New York by doctor Struan Coleman on Wednesday.  Ricco indicated that the strain was not believed to be overly severe.

Jays, Jenkins Agree On $1,359,000  —  The Blue Jays and first-round pick Chad Jenkins have agreed to terms on a $1.359 million bonus.  Jenkins becomes the 14th of the 32 first-rounders to sign, and just the third to exceed MLB's recommended bonus for his slot.
