Early rumblings from Vegas  —  LAS VEGAS — I put a dollar into a slot machine last night and lost it.  That'll be the extent of my gambling here since I don't even know how to play most of these games out here.  And it is something to see people smoking cigarettes and cigars inside in this day and age.

Dodgers near agreement with Blake  —  Buzz up!  —  LAS VEGAS - The Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing a contract agreement with third baseman Casey Blake after raising their offer to three years, sources said Monday morning.  —  The team expected to hear more from Blake's representative, Jim McDowell, as the meetings went on.

Phillies, Moyer haggling over money  —  The Phillies' difficulties in re-signing Jamie Moyer have reached the stage where Moyer has re-enlisted his former agent, Jim Bronner, to begin calling other clubs to see how much interest they would have in the 46-year-old left-hander.
