Heilman has been weak link in Mets' bullpen  —  Good cheer pervaded the Mets' clubhouse late last night, and why not?  They badly needed this victory, 4-3 in 12 innings over the Phillies, to establish further street cred in the National League East and even their record at 4-4.

Rays pitcher Reyes slugged, Tased, arrested at Tampa bar  —  TAMPA — Tampa Police arrested Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al Reyes early this morning, saying the reliever was drunk and disruptive when he fell down, picked a fight and spit blood at patrons of a popular Hyde Park night spot where Jessica Sierra was arrested last year.

Now Starting for the Mets: Nelson Figueroa, King of Quadruple-A  —  While Nelson Figueroa, scheduled to make his first start for the Mets on Friday night, may be unknown to most American fans, observers from Mexico to the Dominican Republic to Taiwan know the 33-year-old journeyman pitcher as an ace.

Injury bug bites infield  —  Lowell on DL; Cora hurts elbow … As of yesterday, the Sox had yet to place Kyle Snyder [stats] on waivers, and there were indications that they were looking to trade the right-hander.  Among the teams interested in Snyder, who was designated for assignment Sunday, are the Tigers, Rays and Phillies.

Myers vows to come out smokin' against Cubs  —  NEW YORK - Brett Myers hasn't been himself in his first two starts this season.  —  He hasn't shown his fastball as much.  He hasn't been his aggressive self.  —  “I'm closing for nine innings tomorrow,” said Myers, who will start tonight …

Horne to the disabled list  —  Just bounced text messages back and forth with Alan Horne.  —  The MRI showed a slight tear of his right biceps and he's going back to Tampa to rehab the injury.  Horne said he wasn't sure how long he would be out, but the damage isn't to a ligament, which seems like good news.

Horne Escapes Without ‘Long-Term’ Injury  —  It was startling for the Yankees on Thursday when Alan Horne, one of the team's best pitching prospects, had to leave his start for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after two innings with a biceps injury.  It turns out that the injury is not too severe.

James sent back to Richmond  —  Denver — Chuck James spent less than 15 hours on the 25-man roster of the Braves, who optioned the left-hander to Class AAA Richmond on Thursday.  —  The move wasn't surprising after his woeful start Wednesday, when he came off the disabled list and gave up six runs …
